Packing Tips

What to avoid while packing before a move

Packing tips for a large move

Air 1 Moving & Storage understands that a great move starts with a great packing experience, and great packing experiences are usually very organized. A well-organized packing job can make all the difference for your next big move, which is why is why it’s important to plan out your packing! Use the following tips collected from Air 1 professionals to help ensure that your move is as stress-less and fast as possible.

  • Seasonal packing is smart packing. No matter how much you like your wardrobe, one thing is for sure: you won’t be needing your winter coat if your move is in July. Always pack things that are out of season first (so they go on the bottom), and follow up with things you use less frequently, waiting to pack the things you use the most, or on a daily basis, last. No need to pack lightweight clothing if it’s already in a dresser or drawer; however, if your drawers contain a lot of loose items or things that would be prone to falling out and breaking, we recommend you bag these and pack them in boxes.
  • Heavy on the bottom, medium in the middle, light on the top. This is an important tip if you’re packing moving boxes. Always keep the heavier items down at the bottom of the box with medium weight items in the middle and lightweight items on the top. Create barriers between different sections of your box using cushioned blankets, towels, or even shredded paper. This not only helps to organize your box, but also to prevent its contents from breaking while in transit.
  • Fragile items should be boxed separately. Don’t throw your antique China teacups in some random box and hope for the best! When moving with small, fragile items, try boxing them individually or in sets, always cushioned with paper or blankets. Once packaged separately, you can then attempt putting your fragile boxes in other boxes, but always make sure there is ample cushioning available.
  • An evenly packed box makes for a happy mover. Never, ever over pack! The top and bottom of your boxes should be flat, with no bulging or protruding objects. Fill any excess space in your boxes with cushion, towels, or shredded paper to ensure that there is little to no chance of the items you packed moving around and knocking into each other.
