Tips for hiring painters.
Whether you want your new place to be painted before you move in, or you want to get your old place painted before you sell it, unless you’re doing it yourself you will have to deal with painters and painting companies.
Some details to consider:
- How long will the job take? When will they be able to start and how long do they estimate the job taking to complete. What kinds of prep work will they do?
- Are they licensed?
- Get your price quotes and completion time estimates upfront and in writing. Don’t let them start the project, until they give you a definite price and time frame.
- Get price quotes from different companies. Don’t always go for the cheapest quote. Remember that you usually get what you pay for.
- Ask them for referrals from past clients.
- Check out their reputation with the Better Business Bureau.
- Find out if the company has its own painters, or if it will be contracted out to other companies.
- How experienced is the painting staff?
- How long has the company been in business?
- Is the company or contractor insured? And if so, what does their insurance cover?
- Listen to their advice on a project, but still let them know what you want.
