If you are moving to a new house, you may want to do some small upgrades before fully moving in. This of course depends on you and whether or not the fixes are mandatory safety concerns or just cosmetic touch ups. If you are moving to a brand new house, everything should be new and up to code. If you are moving to a house that is new to you, there may be some stuff to fix or upgrade..
Not having any furniture in the house gives you the opportunity to paint the house. Maybe the walls are a little faded, or you just want a new color. A fresh coat of paint always looks better than faded paint on dirty walls. Start your new life with some new paint.
Now that the painting is done, you can focus on the floors. If the hardwood floor is old and damaged, you probably want to get that fixed or replaced. If you want to get the carpet cleaned or get new carpeting, doing it while you have little to no furniture in the house is your best time to do so.
As with moving to any new place, it is probably a good idea to get your locks replaced or re-keyed. You don’t know how many people have keys to the place. This is just a good practice for your own safety and well-being.
This is the time for minor construction projects. If you need to install any fixtures, get the house rewired; add shelving, and other such stuff. Do these things now while you have nothing to move around.
