Some Tips on Moving Furniture

Posted by Air1Moving

The biggest items you will have to move is your furniture. After you’ve decide which furniture is moving with you, the packing process can begin.

  1. If your furniture can be disassembled, take it apart and pack it securely. Keep all of the nuts, bolts, and other hardware together in a clearly marked bag or small box. If the pieces of the furniture are small enough pack them in boxes, otherwise just wrap it all up bubble wrap.
  2. If it doesn’t fully come apart, take it apart as far as you can. It will make storage easier and give you more packing space.
  3. If you don’t have instructions on how something was put together, make yourself some while taking it apart. Just in case you forget how something goes back together. Moving can be a high stress situation, so it would be understandable that you forget things you did during the process. This is why making yourself checklists are also an ideal practice.
  4. For your couches, take all of the cushions and package them in bags for protection.
  5. With dressers and cabinets, be sure and empty all of the content inside them.
  6. When loading your furniture on the moving truck, cover it with sheets. Surround it with moving pads to help protect you items from damage. You don’t want to hurt yourself or the furniture, so always use the proper tools to move your items. Don’t try and move big items yourself, get a few buddies or neighbors to help you out. Or if you’re hiring a moving company, let them do it.

Some Things to Consider When Looking into Renting a Storage Unit

Posted by Air1Moving

Here are some reasons why you might want to get a storage unit:

  • If you have a lot of clutter around your house and are not willing to get rid of it.
  • You are in the middle of a move and want a temporary place to put stuff.
  • You are moving to a smaller place than your previous home and just don’t have the space for all your stuff.

Here are some things to consider when researching a storage unit company:

  • Find out the shapes and sizes of the units they have available.
  • Are there climate controlled units?
  • Does the lot have a Security System? If so, what kind?
  • Are the units rented, leased, or your choice?
  • What is the cost of the unit?
  • Are there security guards on the premises?
  • Find out the rules on the kinds of items you can store.
  • How far in advance do you need to rent a unit?
  • When can you visit your storage unit?
  • Is there any mobile unit service?
  • How many people can have access to your storage unit?

After you have your storage unit:

  • Pack everything in boxes as if you were moving.
  • Cover furniture with sheets.
  • Electronics should be stored with the boxes and packing they came with. If you no longer have the original packaging, use a sturdy box and make sure your devices are properly padded.
  • Do not store anything that will be a potential fire hazard.

Tips for Moving from a House to an Apartment.

Posted by Air1Moving

The main issue you will have from moving from a house to an apartment is trimming down all of the stuff you have. More than likely, you will not be able to bring it all with you.

To start your move you will need to assess the situation:

  • How many rooms are in the apartment?
  • What kind of space will you have?
  • As with any move, this is the time to get rid of your excess belongings. Sort through everything to determine what you need, what you want, what you don’t want, and what is going in the garbage.
  • Try to sell off all of the stuff you don’t want that is sellable. Furniture, yard tools, that lawn mower you won’t need anymore.
  • Have a Yard Sale.
  • Donate what you can’t sell to charity or give it to friends, family, and neighbors.
  • Keep the furniture that you can use and that will fit in the apartment.
  • You will have to make use of every inch of storage space in your new apartment. Learn to stack your items in the closet or wherever you can. Hang up everything you can.
  • If you absolutely cannot get rid of your extra stuff, you will have to get a storage unit. Or some nice friends and family members with extra storage space.
