Air 1 Moving & Storage

Helping people plan for a move.

How to take care of those Utilities when moving.

Posted by Air1Moving

In the event of a move, you will have to have your current utilities shut off and schedule for the utilities of your new place to be turned on. It is always best to schedule these times with your utility companies in advance. A few weeks before you actually move, call to set up your end dates. To prepare for the call, have all of your account numbers ready.

Find out if your current companies service the same area you are relocating to. If they do you can usually just forward your service to the new address. If not, set up the cancellation date and time for the service to be turned off. Make sure and give the company your forwarding address incase there are any issues or if they you any deposit refunds.

Call your new companies and set up a start service date and time. You generally want to schedule this the day of or before your move. By utilities, I mean Gas, Water, Electricity, and Telephone Service. Some people include cable in this list too. If you have them start the service early, you will have time to get any issues resolved before actually moving in. If you wait, you might have to live without that service while the problem gets resolved.
